Iosif Berman was a freelancer of his time, selling his photography to numerous publications in Romania, such as „Adevărul”, „Dimineața”, „România Ilustrată”, and other, and also to New York Times, Associated Press, Scandinavian Newspaper Press.
As such, besides the glamorous highlife of Bucharest or the idyllic ethnographic imagery, he also photographed cities, buildings, nature sights in various parts of the country which serve as a realistic reminder of what Romania used to look like.
Part of a full photo reportage in Romania Illustrated in April 1927 this dreamy photograph depicts the mausoleum of an unknown in Teche, Balcic. At that time Balcic was part of Romania and it had a numerous Turkish population, because the region was under Ottoman occupation for hundreds of years.
